Senior Project Engineer - Electrical (Industrial & Energy Sector)
Take the lead on complex electrical engineering projects across the Energy and Industrial sectors, shaping power infrastructure and renewable solutions end to end.
About the job:
As a Senior Project Electrical Design Engineer at Ethos Engineering, you will play a key role in delivering complex electrical designs across the Energy and Industrial sectors. The role involves leading electrical engineering solutions for power infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial projects, from concept through to construction and commissioning, while supporting Ethos’ continued growth in these markets.
This role is primarily office-based with regular site and client interface, operating in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Experience & Qualifications
Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years’ experience working at Senior Engineer level on complex electrical engineering projects.
Chartered Engineer status is an advantage but not essential.
Demonstrable experience delivering Energy, Power, or Industrial electrical projects is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the electrical design delivery for Energy and Industrial projects, including power infrastructure, substations, and renewable energy developments.
Develop primary and secondary electrical designs for medium voltage and low voltage (MV/LV) distribution systems.
Design and specify substation systems, including AIS and GIS configurations, protection & control schemes, and associated auxiliary systems.
Undertake power systems studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and grid connection studies.
Support renewable energy integration, including solar PV, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and microgrid solutions.
Prepare detailed electrical schematics, single line diagrams, layouts, and technical specifications.
Specify key electrical equipment including transformers, HV cables, underground cables, switchgear, and protection devices.
Develop and review earthing/grounding system designs in line with relevant standards and site-specific requirements.
Produce fully detailed tender packages, including technical reports, specifications, drawings, and tender analysis/recommendations.
Monitor installation quality on site and support commissioning activities through to project completion.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of electrical design standards within the organisation.
Mentor and technically support junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
Liaise confidently with clients, network operators, contractors, architects, and project managers.
Technical Skills & Expertise
Strong background in medium voltage and low voltage electrical systems, including MV/LV distribution and substation design.
Proven experience in protection & control, grid connections, and power systems engineering.
Experience with renewable and industrial energy projects, including solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid energy systems.
Solid understanding of HV and underground cable systems, earthing/grounding design, and transformer specification.
In-depth knowledge of relevant standards including ETCI, IEC, BS, IS, EN and CIBSE (where applicable).
Proficient in industry software such as AutoCAD, Amtech, Dialux, and Revit (experience with power system analysis tools is an advantage).
Strong report writing, documentation, and technical presentation skills.
