About the job:
Ethos Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Mechanical Design Engineer with 10+ years’ experience to join our soon-to-be-launched Birmingham office, working closely with our established Dublin team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of our new UK hub while delivering major hyperscale data centre projects across the EMEA region.
The role will initially be fully remote. Once the Birmingham office is operational, flexible attendance will be required as part of a hybrid working model.
As a Senior Project Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the design of mechanical building services within the data centre sector, managing projects across EMEA from concept through to client handover. You will take ownership of multiple projects, ensuring programme, budget and quality objectives are achieved.
You will build and maintain strong client relationships and act as a key point of coordination across multidisciplinary teams. In addition, you will mentor and support engineering staff, ensuring all deliverables align with our quality assurance standards and that project teams remain on track to meet deadlines.
About you:
The role will initially be fully remote. Once the Birmingham office is operational, flexible attendance will be required as part of a hybrid working model.
Minimum of 10+ years of mechanical design experience.
Hold a professional qualification.
Role would be as a senior member of the design team, working under the team leadership to deliver leading data centre developments for some of the largest tech firms in Ireland and overseas.
Candidate would need excellent communication skills, representing Ethos as the design team in client meetings.
Ability to lead projects and take briefs from the project lead on large projects, delivering and controlling the required tasks.
Candidate needs to balance multiple tasks, prioritise, and delegate as appropriate to meet project deadlines.
Excellent report writing skills and the ability to explain complex engineering issues in simple and clear language.
Good understanding of HVAC and building controls.
Experience in the design of plumbing and drainage systems is preferred.
Training and professional development of junior and intermediate engineers working as part of the group.
Training and mentorship will be provided to develop the right candidate to progress into a lead role within the Data Centre team.
Your day-to-day activities:
Oversee the development and workload of team members to optimise productivity.
Possess extensive knowledge of discipline areas to guide decision-making and problem-solving effectively.
Understand client needs and develop strong client relationships to deliver tailored solutions that meet expectations.
Comprehend contract terms and conditions to control scope creep and maintain project integrity.
Delegate tasks strategically to achieve maximum value and enhance team engagement.
Report progress to the Group Management Team to ensure transparency and alignment with organisational goals.
Manage quality control within projects to ensure deliverables meet established standards.
Engage in resource management to optimise resource allocation and project execution.
Promote a positive message internally and externally to enhance team morale and the company’s reputation.
