Power Systems Engineer
Join Ethos as a Power Systems Engineer and shape resilient data centre power, modeling with ETAP, collaborating across disciplines to deliver reliable, compliant electrical designs.
About the Role
Ethos is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to join our expanding Data Centre Group, supporting the design and delivery of resilient electrical infrastructure for some of the world's most advanced mission-critical facilities.
Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will provide specialist expertise in power system modelling, analysis and electrical network design, ensuring the highest levels of reliability, resilience and operational performance across large-scale data centre developments.
A key aspect of this role is the development of digital power system models using ETAP, undertaking detailed network analysis to inform design decisions from concept through to commissioning. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, BIM, commissioning and project delivery teams to develop technically robust solutions that comply with international standards and meet demanding client requirements.
Responsibilities
Develop detailed ETAP models for complex electrical distribution networks.
Support the design of resilient MV and LV distribution systems for mission-critical facilities.
Develop single line diagrams, network schematics and protection philosophies.
Produce detailed engineering calculations and technical reports.
Review protection settings and coordinate relay philosophies.
Assist with utility interface studies and grid connection assessments.
Review vendor ETAP models and manufacturer data for technical compliance.
Validate electrical equipment ratings against calculated system duties.
Collaborate with BIM teams to ensure coordination between physical layouts and electrical system models.
Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and energisation planning.
Assist commissioning teams by validating power system performance against ETAP simulations.
Contribute to QA processes by reviewing technical calculations, reports and design deliverables.
Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency through standardisation and digital engineering tools.
Support the development of internal ETAP standards, templates and modelling procedures.
Mentor graduate and junior engineers in power systems analysis and ETAP modelling.
Liaise with clients, utilities, contractors and equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues throughout project delivery.
Perform electrical power system studies including:
Load flow analysis
IEC 60909 short circuit studies
Protection coordination
Selectivity analysis
Arc flash studies
Harmonic analysis
Motor starting studies
Voltage drop calculations
Equipment duty assessments
Generator performance studies
Contingency and resilience analysis
Desirable Experience
ETAP Certified Professional (or working towards certification).
Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory or SKM Power Tools.
Experience of large-scale hyperscale data centre developments.
Knowledge of IEC 61850 and digital substations.
Understanding of grid code requirements and utility connection processes.
Experience with renewable generation, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or microgrid studies.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration with Engineers Ireland, IET or an equivalent institution.
